Michael Jordan hasn’t played for the Chicago Bulls since the late 90s, but his imprint on the game of basketball remains today. Widely considered the greatest basketball player that has ever played, Jordan’s skill, competitiveness and achievements on the hardcourt are probably only surpassed by the global fame that took hold of “Air Jordan.” A part of six NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998), separated by a two year hiatus from the game of basketball (during his prime!), Jordan’s hardware and accolades are simply absurd. Michael Jordan led the league in scoring ten times. The only other basketball player above 4 times is Wilt Chamberlain with 7. Jordan was a perfect six for six in trips to the NBA Finals.
The only question around Jordan’s career remains what if he didn’t leave the Bulls for two years after winning the first string of three titles? Could the Bulls have won eight straight? Or did, Jordan win the second string of three titles because he was refreshed as a result of stepping away? It’s wild to think of the world’s greatest player retiring in the middle of his prime, but that’s exactly what happened. It’s hard to imagine thinking of someone in a similiar situation doing that today, but Jordan was truly one of one.
