Jerry West
Jerry West, known as “Mr. Clutch,” had one of the most storied playing careers in NBA history. He played his entire 14-season career (1960–1974) with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he became a symbol of consistency, competitiveness, and excellence. A gifted scorer and tenacious defender, West was a 14-time All-Star and made the All-NBA First Team 10 times. He averaged 27.0 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game over his career.
West led the Lakers to nine NBA Finals appearances, winning his only championship in 1972. Despite the team’s struggles against the powerhouse Boston Celtics in the 1960s, West was often the standout performer, once averaging 37.9 points per game in the 1965 playoffs. In 1969, he became the only player in NBA history to win Finals MVP while playing for the losing team.
Nicknamed “Zeke from Cabin Creek,” West was renowned for his smooth jump shot, clutch performances, and leadership on the court. His impact went beyond statistics — his silhouette was famously used for the NBA logo. West’s legacy as one of the greatest guards in basketball history remains intact, and his influence on the game continues to resonate through generations.
