The 2010-11 Utah Jazz season was marked by significant transition and upheaval. The team began the season with high expectations under head coach Jerry Sloan, who had been guiding the Jazz since 1988. Sloan’s tenure, however, came to an abrupt end on February 10, 2011, when he unexpectedly resigned after a reported clash with star point guard Deron Williams. Williams, the team’s leading player, was traded to the New Jersey Nets on February 23, 2011, in a deal that brought Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, and two first-round draft picks to Utah, signaling a shift towards rebuilding.
Utah finished the regular season with a 39-43 record, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Al Jefferson led the team in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game, while also contributing significantly on the boards with 9.7 rebounds per game. The season was a turning point for the franchise, as it marked the end of an era with Sloan’s departure and the start of a new direction under Corbin and a younger roster.
