Boston Celtics 1994-95 Roster and Stats

The 1994-95 Boston Celtics season was a challenging chapter in the franchise’s storied history. The team finished the regular season with a record of 35-47, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1978-79 season. This marked a transition period for the Celtics, who were grappling with the aftermath of Larry Bird’s retirement a few years earlier and the end of the era dominated by their legendary Big Three.

Under the direction of head coach Chris Ford, the Celtics struggled to find consistency. The team was led by forward Dominique Wilkins, who was acquired in the offseason and averaged 17.8 points per game, providing a veteran presence on the court. Guard Dee Brown was another key contributor, averaging 15.5 points and 4.5 assists per game. Despite these efforts, the team lacked depth and struggled defensively, ranking 25th in the league in points allowed per game.

One of the brighter spots of the season was the performance of rookie Eric Montross, a center from the University of North Carolina, who was selected as the 9th overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft. Montross provided solid performances in the paint, earning him NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors. However, the Celtics’ lack of a strong supporting cast and injuries to key players hampered their ability to compete at a high level. The 1994-95 season underscored the need for a rebuild and set the stage for future changes in the organization.

  • Regular Season Record: 35-47
  • Playoff Result: Eastern Conference First Round: 1-3
