The 2009-10 Washington Wizards season was marked by significant challenges both on and off the court. The team finished with a disappointing 26-56 record, placing them last in the Southeast Division and 14th in the Eastern Conference. The season was overshadowed by the suspension of star player Gilbert Arenas due to a highly publicized locker room incident involving firearms. This incident led to Arenas being suspended for the remainder of the season after playing just 32 games.
On the roster front, the Wizards made a major trade in February 2010, sending Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, and DeShawn Stevenson to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, James Singleton, and Quinton Ross. The Wizards also acquired Al Thornton from the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite these roster changes, the team struggled to find cohesion and success on the court. The season concluded with the Wizards missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
