The Orlando Magic have had nine different players be selected to the NBA All-Star Game throughout its history. No player represented the Orlando Magic more in the All-Star Game than Dwight Howard, who did it for six straight seasons between 2006 and 2012. Three other all-time Magic players were selected four times each: Shaquille O’Neal, Penny Hardaway and Tracy McGrady.
The Magic had multiple All-Stars at one time during three different eras. Shaq & Penny both made the All-Star game in 1994-95 and 1995-96. Dwight, Rashard and Jameer were selected during the 2008-09 season. Additionally, T-Mac and Grant Hill were both named to the All-Star Game during the 2000-01 season.
Player | All-Star Selections | Seasons |
---|---|---|
Dwight Howard | 6x | 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 |
Shaquille O’Neal | 4x | 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95, 1995-96 |
Anfernee (Penny) Hardaway | 4x | 1994-95, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98 |
Jameer Nelson | 1x | 2008-09 |
Rashard Lewis | 1x | 2008-09 |
Paolo Banchero | 1x | 2023-24 |
Paolo Banchero’s All-Star selection in 2023-24 during his second season in the league is a promising sign for the young Orlando superstar. Should Banchero’s career continue on its current trajectory, we can assume Banchero will climb this list of Orlando Magic All-Stars.
Shaq’s Rookie Selection
Shaquille O’Neal belongs to a select group of NBA players that were named All-Stars during their rookie season. He is the only Magic player to do this.
Since Michael Jordan did so during the 1984-85 season, the only players to be named All-Stars as rookies are:
- Blake Griffin (2010-11)
- Yao Ming (2002-03)
- Tim Duncan (1997-98)
- Grant Hill (1994-95)
- Shaquille O’Neal (1992-93)
- Dikembe Mutombo (1991-92)
- David Robinson (1989-90)
- Patrick Ewing (1985-86)
- Michael Jordan (1984-85)
You might be wondering where Lebron James is on the above list. The holder for most All-Star Game appearances (20 through 2024) missed the All-Star Game only once during his long career, and that was during his rookie season. Despite being the clear Rookie of the Year, Lebron James missed the All-Star Game in 2003-04. Warranted? James played 39.5 minutes per game over 79 games during his rookie season with 20.9 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game and 5.9 assists per game. Maybe some folks want their 2003-04 All-Star vote back.
