Dominique Wilkins

Dominique Wilkins, forever known as the “Human Highlight Film,” defined an era for the Atlanta Hawks during the 1980s and early 1990s. A prolific scorer and one of the NBA’s most electrifying dunkers, Wilkins gave the franchise a true superstar identity. He spent 12 seasons with Atlanta, averaging over 26 points per game and leading the team to nine consecutive playoff appearances. Although the Hawks often ran into Eastern Conference powerhouses like the Celtics and Pistons, Wilkins’s relentless scoring and athleticism kept them competitive. His 1988 duel with Larry Bird in the Eastern Conference semifinals remains one of the league’s legendary showdowns. Beyond scoring titles and nine All-Star selections, Wilkins brought a swagger and excitement that energized Atlanta’s fan base. He retired as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and remains a central figure in Hawks history, bridging showmanship with consistent excellence.
