Nick Anderson

Orlando's first ever draft pick remains a part of Magic basketball to this day

While you likely won’t find a lot of national NBA talking heads discussing Nick Anderson’s NBA legacy, Anderson’s Orlando Magic legacy indeed shines brightly (yes, even considering the 1995 NBA Finals free throw debacle). One of the main bright spots of the first years of the franchise (as well as the first NBA Draft pick of the franchise in 1989), Anderson remained a starter for the team throughout his time in Orlando, including the deep playoff runs during the Shaq and Penny eras.

Nick Anderson is one of the most productive players in Magic franchise history. With 10,650 career regular season points, Nick Anderson is 2nd all-time in Orlando Magic career points. Anderson is also the franchise leader in games played (692) during the regular season. He adds another 44 games played in the playoffs with a Magic uniform. Simply put, Anderson was a massive presence in Orlando.

Where Nick Anderson stands on historic Orlando Magic statistical records (all regular season, career records):

  • Games Played: 692 (1st)
  • Points: 10,650 (2nd)
  • Threes made: 981 (1st)
  • Rebounds: 3,667 (4th)
  • Assists: 1,937 (5th)
  • Steals: 1,004 (1st)
  • Wins: 361 (2nd)

Nick Anderson is also one of four Orlando Magic players ever that have scored 50 points in a single game. Anderson scored 50 against the New Jersey Nets on April 23, 1993.

Unfortunately, one of Nick Anderson’s most vivid moments as an Orlando Magic player comes from the 1995 NBA Finals where Anderson missed four straight free throws toward the conclusion of game 1 against the Houston Rockets. The Magic lost the game and the Rockets won the series 4-0.

After retirement, Anderson has remained a presence in Orlando both in-person at games and on television on Orlando Magic broadcasts.
