Phoenix Suns 2017-18 Roster and Stats

The 2017-18 Phoenix Suns season was a challenging one, marked by significant struggles and organizational changes. The Suns finished the season with a 21-61 record, securing the worst record in the NBA, which positioned them for the top lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. The season began with an alarming 0-3 start, leading to the dismissal of head coach Earl Watson. Jay Triano was appointed as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

The roster was characterized by youth and inexperience, with Devin Booker emerging as the team’s standout player. Booker averaged 24.9 points per game, showcasing his scoring prowess and establishing himself as a cornerstone for the franchise’s future. Despite his impressive individual performances, Booker struggled with injuries, playing only 54 games. The Suns also acquired rookie Josh Jackson, who showed flashes of potential, particularly in the latter part of the season, averaging 13.1 points per game.

Defensively, the Suns were among the league’s poorest performers, ranking last in defensive rating. They also struggled offensively, ranking near the bottom in several key statistical categories, including field goal percentage and assists. The season was further marred by the trade of veteran guard Eric Bledsoe to the Milwaukee Bucks early in the season after he publicly expressed his dissatisfaction via social media. The Suns’ focus remained on player development and securing a high draft pick to accelerate their rebuild.

  • Regular Season Record: 21-61
  • Playoff Result: Did not make playoffs
