Seattle SuperSonics 1968-69 Roster and Stats

The 1968-69 Seattle SuperSonics season marked the franchise’s second year in the National Basketball Association. Under the leadership of head coach Al Bianchi, the team looked to improve upon their inaugural season. The SuperSonics played their home games at the Seattle Center Coliseum, where they drew a dedicated fan base eager to see competitive basketball.

Seattle completed the regular season with a record of 30 wins and 52 losses. This performance placed them fifth in the Western Division, and they did not qualify for the playoffs. The team struggled with consistency throughout the season, which was reflected in their sub-.500 record. Despite the challenges, the season provided valuable experience for the young franchise.

The SuperSonics were led by All-Star guard Lenny Wilkens, who was a standout performer and provided veteran leadership. Wilkens averaged 22.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game, showcasing his all-around ability. Rookie forward Bob Rule also made a significant impact, averaging 18.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, and establishing himself as a key player for the future.

While the 1968-69 season did not result in playoff contention, it was a developmental year for the SuperSonics. The experience gained during this season laid the groundwork for future success, as the franchise continued to build and strengthen its roster in the competitive NBA landscape.

  • Regular Season Record: 30-52
