Los Angeles Lakers 2004-05 Roster and Stats

The 2004-05 Los Angeles Lakers season marked a significant transitional period for the franchise. After reaching the NBA Finals the previous year, the team underwent major changes. Most notably, head coach Phil Jackson parted ways with the team, and superstar center Shaquille O’Neal was traded to the Miami Heat. Rudy Tomjanovich was brought in as the new head coach, but he resigned midway through the season due to health issues. Frank Hamblen stepped in as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

On the court, the Lakers struggled to find their footing. Kobe Bryant emerged as the undisputed leader of the team, but his efforts were not enough to compensate for the lack of support and depth in the squad. The team’s roster featured new additions like Caron Butler and Lamar Odom, but they faced challenges in maintaining consistency. The Lakers finished the regular season with a 34-48 record, failing to make the playoffs for the first time since 1994.

Despite the disappointing season, there were a few bright spots. Kobe Bryant delivered several standout performances and averaged 27.6 points per game. However, the season was ultimately viewed as a rebuilding year for the Lakers as they looked to regroup and strategize for future success under a new leadership structure. The 2004-05 season was a clear indicator of the challenges the franchise would face in the post-Shaq era.

  • Regular Season Record: 34-48
  • Playoff Result: Did not make playoffs
